Tiny Beach Sunset, Watercolor Practice Surprise

I decided to just do a few minutes of watercolor practice playing with combining Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, and Yellow Ochre. I notice lots of uses for combining these to generate interesting neutralized colors.

After practicing a few abstract figure shapes, I decided to try and create a little beach scene.

I am really happy with how this tiny 3.5 inch painting came out in maybe three minutes of having fun. I like the feel of it so much better than paintings I’ve spent an hour or longer on.

It really does pay to practice. Not only to improve technique, but just to learn more about what and how you enjoy painting.
